CALPE BADMINTON CLUB AND BENISSA BADMINTON CLUB
The two clubs have strong links, with a number of people playing at both. The clubs are, however, different. Whereas CBC expects players to be of at least reasonable club standard, BBC is more a social badminton club, accepting players of all standards; it is a club with a wide range of abilities. Whereas prospective members of CBC have to meet qualifying criteria, BBC accepts players without any selection procedure.
BBC is not a club for absolute beginners; it does expect that a player will have a basic understanding of the game and to be reasonably mobile, recognising that most of us are early retirement age or older! So it’s particularly suitable for those who have recently taken up badminton, or are returning to the game after a gap of perhaps many years. (There are other badminton groups in Calpe and Benissa that cater for beginners and those that only want to play very gentle badminton) Experienced players are usually happy to give informal coaching, and formal coaching can be arranged for anyone who would like it.
There are no objections to trying out both CBC and BBC. If a person comes along to CBC but doesn’t reach the required standard, they will be encouraged to attend BBC to develop their game. Once they have demonstrated improvement, they are then welcome to re-apply for membership of CBC, as well as continuing to enjoy BBC!
BBC meets in the St Pere sports hall in Benissa, Wednesday and Friday afternoons from 1.45 to 3.45. You’re welcome just to turn up, but if you’d like confirmation that the club is meeting on a particular day, or would like further information, please contact the Benissa Badminton club president, Michael Bond: ‘phone 634 343970; email mickzeb8@gmail.com
Note: Benissa Badminton Club should not be confused with St Pere Badminton Club which meets at the same venue, albeit at different times.
